Our Popcorn

All of our popcorn varieties are non GMO and gluten free snacks.  We have selected our varieties for very specific properties, first and foremost always being taste.  We work with a family popcorn breeder who have been perfecting their skills for five generations! 

Truly Local, Farm to Table food:

MI Back Forty Farm is a truly small farm to table venture in West Michigan.  We grow small batches of popcorn varieties right here between Holland, Zeeland, and Overisel, Michigan.  Our seed to snack operation utilizes other local Michigan small agriculture partners for services like our seed cleaner in Niles, MI.

While we grow our food, we are incorporating regnerative soil health principles to grow our soil microbiological ecosystem.

Lake Effect Snow White Popcorn

Our Lake Effect Snow white popcorn is a taste test winner AND is nearly hull-less!  It pops with small, crisp, white “petals” like a west Michigan snowflake. And the flavor is oh, so good.  Some people describe it as slightly nutty in taste.  It is our personal favorite for a simple lightly salted snack.  Lake Effect Snow White is responsible for a few less Michiganders driving to Northern Indiana for popcorn!

Autumn Amber Yellow Popcorn

Our Autumn Amber is a larger kernel traditional yellow popcorn.  It is also a super flavorful popcorn which pops up larger than the Lake Effect Snow white, and hold up to melted butter really well.  Its larger kernels work really wall in hot air poppers.  Autumn Amber is a perennial favorite and makes an excellent movie theater style treat.

Michigan Beachball Yellow "Mushroom" popcorn

Our MI Beachball pops up large and round like a beachball with a shape called “mushroom” in the popcorn industry.  But rest assured, it was selected based on its flavor within this shape type and we will put it up against any other large expansion variety.  MI Beachball is great by itself or with butter but it really shines when used in your caramel corn recipes.  You will find that it holds up really well to the moisture and handling in popcorn balls, and other treats.
